Javari is an innovative music discovery platform and social network for music lovers that personalizes the listening experience using a unique five-point rating system. The platform analyzes each user’s preferences to recommend new artists, connect fans with shared tastes, and create a vibrant online community around music exploration.
Javari was co-founded by musician Ryan O’Leary (CEO) and product manager/tech enthusiast Adriel Estrada. Their driving mission is twofold: to help music fans discover new artists using a sophisticated algorithm that narrows the search, and to empower artists by simplifying their promotion and ensuring they reach their precise target audience.
“We’ve created a system that organizes the world of music based on each fan’s taste in music. Fans get a fun, interactive taste-in-music social network.”
Users actively engage by rating songs on the 5-point scale. The more they rate, the more accurately the system calculates their preferences, generating a Match Score and ranking them on the “Fans Like Me” leaderboard. This fosters a social environment where users can follow artists, share tracks, and get feedback from their connections. By rating and sharing, users earn points, climb the fan ranks, and build influence as music curators, ultimately generating curated Spotify playlists of brilliant, undiscovered music. Javari uses Spotify’s API, requiring users to have a Spotify Premium account to listen to full tracks directly within the platform.
“Artists get an effective, music-focused promotional platform with direct targeting to relevant fans based on their taste in music.”
Javari provides substantial benefits for both listeners and musicians. Traditional music marketing is often ineffective and costly for artists. Broad targeting yields poor results, complex mechanisms are difficult for inexperienced musicians, and large expenses don’t guarantee success.
Javari solves this by offering a clear, cost-efficient solution for musicians to reach their audience via Spotify streams. When artists upload music to Spotify, they can easily add it to their Javari page. The platform facilitates targeted promotion based on individual taste, reducing the pool of listeners to focus exclusively on users who are most likely to become genuine, dedicated fans.
A primary challenge for the QFlux team was establishing a strong, cohesive visual identity. Building upon the existing logo, QFlux developed a visual character that permeates every aspect of the platform.
Purple became the dominant brand color across both mobile and web apps. It is consistently present in the interface as a background, a gradient for shading, through color pops, or for contrast. The secondary palette includes violet, blue, and purple-red, used strategically for color coding to separate site directions: purple-red for music genres, blue for fans and curators, and violet for artists’ pages.
The QFlux team also created a refined system of icons and symbols for various interface elements, including a dedicated set for the 5-point rating scale. Given the scale’s importance, we developed multiple variations using colors and gradients to ensure absolute visual consistency across the entire application.
After defining the visual identity, QFlux moved to conceptualize and design the Javari mobile and web apps. The mobile app design was tackled first, establishing the visual character for a seamless transition to the web version.
Consistency was maintained using the same interface features and color palettes, while structural differences were addressed to account for user behavior: the web app features more multi-column pages and structures, whereas the mobile app relies on scrolling and long vertical arrangements. This responsive and transparent design makes both apps easily comprehensible for new users, complementing each other to allow effortless engagement regardless of the user’s device or prior experience.
The core music motif is deeply integrated into the design. Subtle effects, like curved color gradients and background shadows shaped like an equalizer, support the visual and thematic mood, constantly reinforcing Javari’s identity. QFlux also produced a marketing video presentation of the mobile app, providing an engaging look at its key features.
Ultimately, QFlux created visually appealing and highly user-friendly interfaces that clearly articulate Javari’s overall message, redefine its brand identity, and ensure it stands out in the crowded music app market, capturing the true essence of its aspirations.
