Let’s be FRNDs is the motto of a next-generation iOS app built to help people share, shop, and earn by posting honest reviews of the products they love. Within the platform, users can share their thoughts on beauty items, fashion, and accessories, join discussions in the comments, react to posts, and connect with others in a trusted and lively community.
As Generation Z becomes increasingly resistant to traditional advertising and places more value on real user opinions, the FRND app aligns perfectly with this cultural shift. The platform motivates creators to post authentic reviews through a built-in reward and ranking system. The most reliable reviewers climb levels, strengthening their connection with followers and building trust. Verified contributors can also attach direct links to featured products and earn commissions based on sales — merging genuine recommendations with e-commerce functionality.
QFlux, a digital product design and development studio, helped the FRND team unlock the full potential of their idea by creating a visually striking and functionally robust mobile shopping experience.
When the client first approached us, they had initial interface drafts and brand concepts that needed refinement and direction. Since the FRND startup targeted Generation Z, the goal was to craft an experimental yet intuitive user interface. After conducting in-depth user research, we redefined the design strategy to better match the expectations and behavior of a young, trend-driven audience.
Functionally, the app needed a layer of e-commerce gamification to keep users engaged and encourage them not just to consume content but to actively create and interact with it.
To enhance credibility and engagement, we integrated video-based social networking features, including short reviews, live streaming, and real-time shopping experiences. At QFlux, we believe that video content is one of the most powerful tools to build trust through transparency and storytelling. Therefore, we implemented a rich video feed paired with a lightweight video editor that allows creators to manage and post content effortlessly.
Since every startup needs a strong first impression to attract investors, our team also designed eye-catching pitch decks to help FRND stand out. We complemented that effort with a teaser landing page – a visually compelling, single-page website built for lead capture and pre-launch hype, helping the client grow a waitlist ahead of the app release.
From the start, communication between the QFlux and FRND teams was seamless and productive. Even with occasional scope updates, we maintained a clear structure and efficient workflow, prioritizing tasks to ensure steady progress and timely delivery.
Given the app’s complexity, we began with detailed user flow mapping to make sure the product worked intuitively from end to end. We visualized the typical journey of an FRND user to identify key interaction points and ensure logical navigation. Then our designers created wireframes to demonstrate layout and functionality before moving to the prototyping stage.
Because the client wanted a distinctive, expressive look, we designed a dark-themed interface accented with neon highlights. This combination immediately captures attention, gives the platform a futuristic feel, and appeals to Gen Z’s bold aesthetic sense. The use of ultra-wide modern fonts ensured both readability and visual impact, giving the interface its own stylish personality.
To add playfulness and energy, the QFlux team created animated UI elements that enhanced interactivity and supported the app’s gamified nature. Once the client approved the interface, we handed over the designs to the FRND development team, who successfully tested the product through TestFlight to ensure smooth performance and a stable user experience.
During the design phase, we also produced comprehensive investor pitch decks outlining the target market, audience insights, and app capabilities. These presentations effectively demonstrated the problem FRND solves and its potential for growth, helping the startup secure funding before launch. In parallel, we developed a no-code promotional website with dynamic visuals and a vivid color palette to engage visitors and capture early interest.
The FRND app successfully launched in the Canadian App Store in test mode, supported by investor funding gained through our collaborative efforts. Together, QFlux and FRND built an innovative product that speaks directly to the needs of Generation Z and taps into the fast-growing video-commerce and social review market, delivering an engaging, trustworthy, and future-ready shopping experience.
